You're not the only one who's a health phobic. I worry all the time. Before I actually started the ''worry phase'' my blood pressure was 115/70. Now it's 130/90. OCD doesn't help either. Yes, anxiety sky rockets your blood pressure. High blood pressure (prolonged) can end up straining your heart and lead to some health issues. Try speaking to your doctor, there are a load of good meds out there that help.
References :
Excess weight can elevate blood pressure.
I think that if we have anxiety most of the time our blood pressure can remain elevated and not return to normal quite as easily.
You might want to buy a blood pressure monitor for at home.
Good Luck.
References :
Yes! I have severe anxiety and my BP is normally 120/70. When I'm having high anxiety, it's through the roof! As long as your BP is usually normal, you should not worry about it. You might even keep a BP log (take your BP several times a day for a month). If the average is normal, then no worries!
References :
Yes that can be a reason, but if you are 16 and having panic attacks, you may want to get on some meds, because believe me... they can, and probably will get much worse. I started getting anxiety attacks right around that age, and they have done nothing but got progessively worse until I started taking medication. Also, try to loose just a little weight, it may help a lot.
References :
Okay, that guy is right! Everything he says works!
Anxiety can be difficult at times. For example, I have extreme test anxiety. It sucks because I can know the material so well yet fail the exam because I'm anxious.
Anyhow, exercise helps a lot.
Pills, on the other hand, make me feel synthetic. Yes, use them but don't think they will work magic on you.
Go outside. Breathe the fresh air. DON'T WALK. RUN. RUN. RUN. Again, RUN!
References :
I don't think this other guy has any idea what a panic attack is or what it feels like!!! It sounds to me like he's running for Govenor instead of giving any proper advice. I, on the other hand, happen to have the same problem you do!! I go to counseling once a week, I am currently taking Lexapro and Klonipin, and I practice Reiki which is a stress reducing meditation excercise. I do agree with the other guy when he says to reduce your caffeine intake and get plenty of excercise. You have to be consistant with your meds in order for them to really work. Also, stay away from drugs and alchohol. They don't help.
References :
Yes, anxiety attacks can definitely cause high blood pressure. You also have some risk of high blood pressure because of your family history.
