My panic attacks are constant throughout the day.
Puckbunn..: Thanks for that awesome link – ive been doing research for a while now n have never came across one so informative. =)
Hi.
If your panic attacks aren’t there for months at a time, and then are, they probably have more to do with hypomania than panic disorder. If you always have panic attacks regardless of your mood, then you may have a comorbid panic disorder. Even if that’s it, if they are much worse now and you are sleeping less with other signs of hypomania, it may be a sign that you are not stable. In any case, talk to you doctor. If this has picked up a lot recently, then call and get an appt sooner than later. No point dealing with it longer than necessary.
For almost a year now ive been having panic attacks with the symptoms of not being able to breathe and going numb what should i do and how can i prevent this from happening its really scary.
Hi,
A website I found useful for a friend (very close friend) lists some options available. Let’s cut ‘n paste here….
"Natural panic attack remedies generally fall into three categories: Cognitive Therapy, Emotional Freedom Techniques (Energy Therapy), and Herbal / Supplement Remedies."
What we did, we Googled each category and we got some helpful tips. I recommend you do the same as, I find, different people get panic attacks for different reasons.
BTW, the website provides 3 practical techniques that my friend is very grateful for. Here’s the link if you’re intersted:

Good Luck!
Panic attack symptoms are caused by a number of biological changes that occur during times of stress and anxiety. The human body is very resilient, even in times of anxiety we are strong, although we may not feel it. It’s also very true that some people might be scared that their heart will stop, or give up, through the constant racing, thumping or chest pain, this is simply not true; again these are very common symptoms of panic attacks.
No one has ever come to any harm as a result of anxiety or panic attacks! Consider how hard athletes have to work in order to give their hearts the kind of workout your heart receives through anxiety; athletes hearts do not give up, do they? The heart is a muscle, raising the heart rate exercises it, making it fitter. You wouldn’t worry if your heart raced after running for the bus, so why worry about it when it happens during anxiety. Panic attacks symptoms are harmless.
The downside of these panic attack symptoms is that your body will feel tired and shaky after they subside. You may feel as if you have run a marathon yourself. Feeling tired or achy is a necessary side effect, if you are aware that it may happen, when it does, you will know what it is and it won’t scare you as much!
Most anxious people complain of aching muscles and general fatigue, these are very common symptoms of panic attacks and anxiety. Muscle tension can cause pain or sensations of tightness anywhere in the body; most common in anxiety are pains in the chest, neck and shoulders. Tension in these places can be distressing; the tension in your chest may cause shortness of breath or rib pain, and it may make your chest or breasts tender or numb. Pains in the muscular tissues of the neck and back can cause the blood vessels and nerves to become restricted; this can cause headaches or migraine but can also cause the head to feel tender or painful.
It is possible for your face or scalp to feel numb or dead, this can affect sensations around your eye, in your cheek, face and jaw and can even affect the sensations in your mouth. This is caused by muscular tension causing restriction around the nerves and blood vessels in my neck. When I first experienced this, I was very scared as are many of my clients. AGAIN, another symptom of panic attacks and anxiety which causes the sufferer unnecessary worry but is completely harmless. Massaging the neck releases much of the tension and thus relieves the sensations; this works for most people.
This tension can cause feelings of numbness in the arms (usually the left), and also the legs. Don’t be alarmed if this happens to you.
You must understand that the nervous system is found in every inch of your body. There are nerve endings literally everywhere, around every organ, muscle and over every square millimeter of your skin so the symptoms of panic attacks and anxiety can be experienced anywhere! Tension can be responsible for many of the sensations experienced during anxiety.
Symptoms of panic attacks are EXACTLY what the name suggests, a symptom of the disorder not of another condition. These symptoms should be ignored, they have no importance or relevance to you, or your life.
Do not allow these unpleasant panic attack symptoms and sensations to get the better of you, after all that is all they are. The nerves tell the brain what it should be feeling under certain conditions and the brain responds. If tired and anxious nerve signals become confused, the brain may interpret the feeling of ice against the skin as burning, or the eyes might send a confused signal to the brain that makes you see a smooth surface ripple like water. Perceived sensations never have and never can, hurt any one. All symptoms of panic attacks and anxiety are caused by confused bodily sensations and nerve impulses, you may feel like the end is in sight, but it most certainly is not.
i often start to shake & my heart starts beating really fast. then i start to breath kind of funny. sometimes i get hot flashes as well. but then after a minute or two i am fine.
i am a shy person, so i may just get nervous around people, but are these symptoms of a panic attack or something?
I think that is the actual definition of a panic attack. Although, many people use the term panic attack at other times.
Can someone have panic attack symptoms throughout the day.?
A person can have panic attack symptoms anytime. However as horrible as it feels at the time there are things you can do to help. Like taking deep breaths to help calm yourself. Think of something peaceful and relaxing. Take a short walk if you can. Talk to your doctor to get medical help for it if it is to the point where it interrupts your life.
Best of luck to you,
Shar

isometimes i like feel as if ive suddenly woken up, and often get confused and lost around my house for about 3 seconds or so. i looked on the net and found (derealization) i think this mite be it but im not a 100%. i also have bbad panic attacks and just feel like running away. ples help.
You have a number of options.
1. The most popular (but damaging) option is to get drugs like Prozac. I suggest you read http://www.antidepressantsfacts.com/ first before taking this option. Many times drugs don’t work and people get trapped in the cycle of trying different mind-bending drugs for years, without relief.
2. If you have an issue or problem with a certain event or situation or person, see a therapist and work through it, learning new coping skills. If seeing a therapist isn’t an option, self-help books can help you to learn ways to cope with problems. Plus, there are many books on panic/anxiety and also a free online course that you take over a period of weeks at http://www.paniccenter.net
3. If you have irrational phobias in an otherwise balanced life, and can’t understand why you get anxiety/panic in a certain situation, try self-hypnosis-type programs like http://www.panic-anxiety.com
4. Calming herbs like valerian, kava-kava, chamomile or special formulas might help to take the edge off, but don’t seem to eliminate the problem completely. Be wary of expensive on-line herbal formulas that promise to eliminate anxiety/panic: you can easily get the same herbs at most drug stores for a fraction of the cost.
5. Exercises like tai chi or yoga (many libraries have DVDs you can rent) are helpful to calm the breathing and mind. You can do these, and other things like walking no matter what treatment you decide on.
6. If you feel you have a more or less balanced life without any major issues, yet you’re having both mental and physical symptoms, such as heart palpitations, anxiety, feeling weak, mood swings, confusion, etc. you could have a hormone imbalance, which would take blood or saliva tests to determine. If you have a hormone imbalance (NOT a chemical imbalance) no breathing exercises or hypnosis or self-talk is going to help- the physical imbalance is in the adrenals, thyroid, and cortisol levels. This is easily corrected with bio-identical hormones. Many doctors/insurance don’t deal with this, so you’ll need a specialist. http://www.womentowomen.com/depressionanxietyandmood/anxiety.asp
So I am not prone to a panic attack. But I have a few friends who told me they have had them once or twice. I have one friend in particular who says she may get one under certain circumstances.
My first question is: what is the medical deffinition of a panic attack?
2. What are the symptoms what should an on looker like me look for?
3. What can an on looker like me do to help the person suffering from the attack?
4. How bad can it get before urgent medical care is needed (i.e. 911, Emergency room, etc.)
5. What can I expect to set off panic attacks in other people?
panic attacks are complicated and generally not associated with one particular thing/activity (although, after someone has a panic attack, they begin to subconsciously associate it with the event). General symptoms include but are not limited to: "heavy chest", diziness, tight throat, feeling out of breath/unable to breath, restless feeling within, heart palpitations and other less common symptoms. As far as medical care – it’s not necessary – although it is VERY scary for the person dealing with the panic, they are in no physical danger (unless driving or performing an activity which can cause injury). The best thing for you to do is STAY CALM. The last thing someone with a panic attacks wants is for someone around them to get all worked up. Be reassuring and continue telling them that "it’s just panic, you can’d die from it" and that "it will go away". I had daily attacks for years before i decided to take medicine for it (zoloft, although there are many good meds out there for panic).
i have anxiety, and im only 14 years old.
i don’t know what to do to keep me from being nervous or worried all the time, i don’t want to be put on meds because its not good for me at my age, any ideas?
Panic attacks are when you get worried (or are even crying) to the point where its hard for you to gasp for air or breathe.
The best idea for your anxiety is to either get a therapist or just live with it.
Good luck =)
