How do you stop anxiety, panic attacks, and esp. depression without consulting a doctor?

You can’t eliminate it properly without meds or at least therapy, most of the time. However, there are things you can do to make yourself get better.

E.G for anxiety and panic attacks, avoid "triggers". You’ll notice you panic when certain things are around. You may think "Oh, gosh, I don’t want to die." and panic about death (which is pretty common), but this might happen when you are in really strong winds, for example. Strong winds could be your trigger. That was a bad example, but you get what I mean?

Depression, you need to… take your mind off it. Hang out with friends. Take in a hobby. Get a pet. Write. Draw. Express yourself. Throw eggs off tall buildings.
Vent in any way you can, keep your mind off the sadness in any way you can, and it will lessen.

Stop Panic Attacks?

How do I stop a panic attack without drugs, what about if this attack leads to diarrhea?

If you are having panic attcks that are interfering with your normal daily functioning, and you have had several of them, you should see a doctor and get properly diagnosed. It can be a symptom of a neurotransmitter imbalance in the brain which can get worse in time and lead to more severe symptoms down the road. There are several good, very safe drugs that are used to treat this condition on a long term basis. If you insist on not taking drugs, you might try taking St. Joh’s Wort, which has similar beneficial effects on keeping certain neurotransmitters at normal levels. Also raw cocoa bean extract works well, since the cocoa contains a natural monoamine oxidase inhibitor.

Also if you are having diarrhea, it suggests your body is releasing a very large impulse of cortisol during the attack. This suggests to me that you may have a disease condition involving either the pituitary gland, or the adrenal glands. In any case you need to be seen by someone and some tests need to be run to be sure you don’t have a serious underlying condiiton. For example a pituitary tumor or an adrenal tumor, or Cushing’s syndrome. You should be evaluated by an endocrinologist, or ideally a neuroendocrinologist.

How do i stop panic attacks without medications?

I’ve had panic attacks since i was 16. They came out of nowhere. I am now 31 and still have them. Also, when an incredibly stressful situation comes along, like someone leaving me or dying, I crumble. Now if it’s someone having a heart attack, I go right into CPR and react fine without thinking. It’s only when something personally effects me that I lose the ability to function normally.
Now, I’ve tried every kind of benzo there is, and they do help, but they are also incredibly addicting.
I tried oxycontin, and boy did it take away all my anxiety, but it ended up takingover my life, and I nearly lost everything trying to get off of it.
I’ve lost faith in all anti-anxiety meds, SSRI’s, and alcohol, as they make things worse in the long run.
I need a way to stop this once and for all. I exercise regularly, and it does help alot, but the moment I’m sitting home doing nothing, they start. I cant keep moving all the time though. I need to sleep and relax just like everyone else. Problem is I just dont know how to relax. I don’t think I ever learned how to, even when i was a kid.
I know this is a hard question, but any help, advice, and most of all support is so greatly needed.

I’m in a similar situation.

There are a few things that I have found that help. It sounds like you’ve tried most of the drugs and not had a tremendous amount of luck with that.

Exercise definitely helps, especially if it is cardiovascular. Another thing that I suspect has helped me, but I can’t be sure about is fish oil. I’ve been taking these Omega 3 Fish Oil pills I got at Walmart, and I have to say I think they are helping.

Another thing that seems to help me is to simply get outside and do something that I enjoy. It is pretty tough to actually find something that you really enjoy, but lately I’ve found that I enjoy gardening. I’ve got a small vegetable garden, and it is pretty pleasing to work on, and to watch the plants grow.

You may also try listening to calming music, and just try to sit and relax. I like some of "Enya" and I find that to be nice to relax to.

I’m not sure what I think of the suggestion above of doing word repetition. I do this, but part of it is my obsessive compulsive disorder, and for me it isn’t always constructive. Though if used correctly it can be a meditative technique.

How do I stop these wierd "panic" attacks I keep getting?

It only happens at swim practice. I’ve been getting these… "attacks"? I guess. All of a sudden my heart will beat wildy fast and all the energy drains out of my limbs. It makes me feel like i’m going to cry. I can’t control it. I think it’s all in my head though, so I feel like I should be able to control it. When I’m afraid it’s going to happen it happens. Even when I know I can make a set it happens. It makes it incredibly hard to breath and I end up gasping for air after just a couple laps. I’m not at all out of shape. What do I do to stop it? It’s happening like, every day

I have had anxiety and panic attcks for years. Not fun. One time I really thought I was "on my way out…for good". My heart raced and beat so hard I couldn’t believe it. I went limp, my head got all tingly and everything started to close in on me. I was shaking like a leaf. I almost fainted. My face and lips got really pale.My mother in law called 911. When they got to my house I was a wreck. They did an ekg and checked oxygen in my blood. Took my blood pressure, temperature and determined that I had experienced a major panic attack and suggested I go in to see the doctor and get some anti anxiety medication to take if I felt it happening again. I felt so stupid, so embarrassed that an ambulance came because I had a stupid panic attack. ti anxiety meds are a bad idea if you take them daily. However, if you do get some, make sure you save them only for those "special occasions" I carry mine around with me everywhere I go and that helps make me feel somewhat "safe". I know I have something to help stop those feelings when they are coming on and it makes me feel somewhat in control. Beware, anti anxiety meds are very very addicting if you take them every day. Also, there are really good antidepressants out on the market now that help keep anxiety/panic under control. Another very important thing is that I think you need to see a really good counselor that deals with these kinds of issues. Something weird is "triggerring" these episodes and a counselor can help you determine what that is. As you know, you can’t just talk to anyone about this problem because they don’t understand and you don’t want people to think that you are "loosing it". Right? This is a horrible thing to have to deal with. A really good idea would be for you to get a complete physical and blood work done just to make sure there is not some underlying physical issue that could be causing these "attacks".
PS There are many calming herbs, vitamins and amino acids that you can take every day. I also have access to a catalogue that sells amino acids for the brain. They have a product called "Anxiety Control 24". I would be happy to try and find the info and give you the phone number or website. Another idea is to go to "google" and type in anxiety, panic, amino acid, herbs, vitamins and click on search. You’ll be amazed with all the information that comes up. I "google" every time I have a question about anything. I usually have myself diagnosed before I get to the doctor.Take care.

How can I stop anxiety…panic attacks?

I keep getting anxiety…little panic attacks…had been drinking lots of beer most of the summer… stopped drinking on sunday…still feel not good at all. How long will the anxiety last? How long will it take for body to come back to normal?

May be a good idea to stop alcohol until this is resolved. Try relaxation and breathing techniques. This website has some self-treatment suggestions:

Also, experiences of people who are in situations similar to you, and how they tried to resolve it:

You may also want to check with a professional. He or she may help you find the underlying cause of your anxiety/fear, and put you on the way to recovery, through medications and/or therapy.

Hope you find those resources helpful. Good wishes.

i drink but it’s no solution…any helpful hints would be appreciated, i also have a nervous stomach which doesn’t help
i am not on medication

You can take anti-anxiety medication which you can get from your doctor. Drinking really won’t help and could make your situation worse. Many people who get panic attacks wear a rubber band or elastic around their wrist as snapping it can help some people to, pardon the pun, snap out of it when a panic attack begins.
