i have taken alot of medecines xanax and others i dont remember the names. i dont feel any different.
if Xanax or any other medication in the same class as Xanax doesn’t work for you then perhaps your dosage isn’t high enough. That’s about the only reason why I can imagine that Xanax wouldn’t work. It’s really a wonderful drug for anxiety. I guess it’s always possible that you are having some extreme reaction to it but that is so highly unlikely. They say that Valerian root helps people to relax but it’s not something that you should ever mix with other medications and it’s not FDA approved. My personal opinion is that if Xanax isn’t doing it for you then you’re highly unlikely to find a natural cure as they are often weaker than prescription drugs. If you could email me and tell me what strength of xanax you are taking, I can tell you if it’s just too weak for you. If you are taking the little tiny white ones that are round or oval then that might be the case, they are the weakest. If you are taking the little peach ones then you could try to take 1 1/2 of them and see if that helps. You can do the same with the blue ones. 2 of the peach ones = 1 blue one. 2 blue ones = a whole bar (the long white ones). I think the average person has the best benefit from the blue which would be .5mg and the same as 2 peach ones. I know this is confusing but I hope it helps you. Good luck.
100% yes. Three words: Cognitive Behavourial Therapy. Takes a bit fo work, but well worth it! The following steps will eliminate (or at least significantly reduce) your panic attacks and anxiety:
1.Breathe properly – if you control your breathing, you control panic. As soon as you notice the signs of anxiety, check your breathing: breathe in slowly through your nose pushing your tummy out (to the count of 5 or so). Breathe out slowly and for a bit longer (to the count of 7 or so) through your mouth. Do not breathe rapidly or shallowly (in the chest area). This will soon restore the balance of oxygen and you will feel a lot better.
2. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy! CBT is proven to be the most effective thing for panic attacks, OCD and anxiety etc. It takes a bit of work, but it is super effective. (After 15 years of panic attacks, mine stopped completely). You can speak to your doctor about taking a course or you can take a course for free online at: www.livinglifetothefull.com
3. Try relaxation exercise tapes (progressive muscular relaxation). They really help if you practise often enough. You can get free downloads in you put "progressive muscle relaxation" into Google (e.g. lots of universities have them as free downloads)
With each step practise makes perfect. (i.e. practise the steps every day, not just when you are feeling bad). I hope you feel better soon. Best of luck!
I have read that anxiety and panic attacks occur because of chemical inbalances in the brain, but nothing is really wrong with you. Is it possible to be hypnotized into really thinking that nothing is wrong with you ?
No. Hypnosis is not guarenteed to work nor can it be empiracally studied. If someone were to be hypontised, the effects are not long lasting. Anxiety is caused by imbalances of serotnin and excessive cortisol. That being said, you don’t need an SSRI. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy works wonders. It teaches people to recongnize the immediate thought that triggers anxiety and teaches them how to attack it by going through "What if…than" techniques.

I am suffering from terrible anxiety & have panic attacks every single day since 3 months ago. For me it’s not even an emotional thing anymore. The physical distress is actually the worst. Now, I now know why i became this way due to a lot of work & family stress, but that is all better now, but the physical symptoms, dizziness, lightheadedness & palpitations is unbearable. My doctor sent me through a gazillion tests( heart, brain scan, hormones, you name it) and i am practically in perfect health( but so not!) I figured out myself after reading a book Dr Claire Weekes that have anxiety/panic disorder. I really do not want to go on medication, but seems i do not have much of a choice, so, bottom line, is medication as bad as people make it out to be?
Xanax, Klonopin, or ativan are the best anxiety medications out there. However all three are addictive.
I have taken Klonopin and now I am on Xanax. I take 1mg 2x or sometimes 3x a day. If I do not take it in the morning around noon time I have already been constantly worrying and then boom an attack.
Klonopin worked different I had to take 8mg a day. The Xanax seems to be a better choice for me, I am not needing more and been on 3 mg for a year.
Good luck with your attacks. If they are as horrible as mine, I would definitely ask a doctor to put you on an anti anxiety medication. Some GP’s will prescribe them and some won’t. You may need to seek the medication form a psych…
I’ve been taking benzodiazepines for anxiety for the past fifteen years. I couldn’t do without them. Talk to your doctor.
